“Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa (Antonio Banderas) finds himself without adequate funding to finance his war against the military-run government. He also finds himself at odds with the Americans because of the Hearst media empire’s press campaign against him. To counter both of these, he sends emissaries to movie producers to convince them to pay to film his progress and the actual battles. Producer D.W. Griffith (Colm Feore) becomes interested and sends Frank Thayer (Eion Bailey) with a film crew to develop film reels. Thayer becomes horrified and fascinated by the bandit. He finds an enigmatic individual that is both ghoulishly brutal and charmingly captivating. The resulting film became the first feature length movie, introducing scores of Americans to the true horrors of war that they had never personally seen. Thayer sold the studios on making the film despite their concerns that no one would sit through a movie longer than 1 hour by convincing them that they could raise the price of movies to ten cents, doubling the going price at that time. Goofs: Anachronisms: The screen title “May 9, 1914 – New York City” appears over a shot of Times Square. A billboard reads “The Broadway Melody – Metro Goldwyn Mayer”. That studio was founded in 1924, and that movie was released in 1929.

Movie: Anbe Sivam (2003)

“Nallasivam (Kamal Haasan) and Anbarasu (Madhavan) are drawn together by the strigs of fate, since they come into contact at the Bhuvaneshwar airport. Anbarasu is an advertisement director, while Nallasivam is a trade unionist. Fate entwines their travel plans, and they end up travelling to Chennai together. In the course of their journey, Anbarasu, born with a golden spoon, is touched by the realities of the sufferings of a normal human being when he witnesses the injured during a train accident, and he volunteers to donate his blood, which is of a very rare group. The flashback of Nallasivam is recounted during one of their combined journeys. Nallasivam is a communit trade unionist, who fight for higher wages for his comrades. By chance, he falls in love with the daughter Bala(Kiran). Due to oppositions from Bala’s father Padaiyacchi (Nasser), they plan to run away and get married, but unfortunately, Nallasivam meets with an accident which disfigures him. He is told by Padaiyacchi that Bala is married, so he pursues his communist agenda, during the course of which he meets Anbarasu. Anbarau is drawn to Nallasivam in the end, and claims him as his adopted brother, and forces Nallasivam to come to his wedding. Once at the wedding hall, kamal discovers teh bride to be none other than his sweetheart, Bala. When Padaiyacchi discovers him at the hall, his is in panic, and pleads for him to leave. Santhana Bharathy as Padaiyacchi’s henchman plays out a sentimental scene in the end. The movie is more of a parallel cinema, with Kamal and Madhavan acting their roles to stellar effeciency. Goofs: Factual errors: Anbarasu had drinks (whisky) before he slept in the train with Uthaman and the next day, he is donating his blood to the child. How it is possible to donate a blood if he had taken drinks a night before in less than 8hrs? Medically, it is dangerous to donate blood to others if you had taken alcohol within 12 hrs of blood donation.
